Residents of the Jalan Cochrane government quarters can start moving to their new homes at the People’s Housing Project (PPR) in Seri Alam in Sungai Besi beginning tomorrow.
Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) deputy director-general Datuk Mohd Amin Nordin Abdul Aziz said 183 families who drew lots for their units last week can now start packing up.
“DBKL will help the families to move by providing them the transportation while each family will also receive RM2,000 compensation from the Government,’’ he said, adding they have been given a 14-day time frame to move.
Mohd Amin said DBKL was also in the process of fixing minor problems at the units such as faulty taps and windows to ensure that everything was ready before the residents move in.
Another 58 familes who are retired civil servants and their extended families will be relocated to PPR Kampung Muhibbah in Jalan Klang Lama while families with disabled members would be relocated to the Jalan Duta government quarters.
Cuepacs secretary (finance) Ja’apar Mansor said he was grateful to the Government for providing units that were closer to the city and to DBKL for helping residents move.
The pre-World War II government quarters in Jalan Cochrane are being relocated to make way for redevelopment.
The homes will be demolished to make way for new quarters as well as a mix development of commercial and residential project.
The project, which is expected to be completed within 30 months, is estimated to cost RM200mil. It is undertaken by the Armed Forces Fund Board
