GEORGE TOWN: Penang government servants will each get a RM400 one-off gift for Hari Raya on Sept 3, said Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng Wednesday.
This gift to 3,577 state civil servants, to be made a week before Hari Raya, was approved during the state exco meeting Tuesday and would cost a total of RM1.5mil, Lim said.
“The special payment shows that the state government values the services of Penang’s state civil service.
“We hope the employees will be motivated to work harder to enhance the delivery system and give better service,” he said at a press conference.
Lim said Penang’s success in transforming itself into an international city depends on the success of rooting out “Little Napoleon” tendencies and delivering international standards of service.
“After all, Penang cannot transform itself unless our civil service leads the way with international benchmarks.
“Despite discriminatory and reduced allocations from the Federal Government, Penang state public service has improved and many feels that Penang is cleaner and brighter.
“If we succeed, it is only fair that our civil servants enjoy international-scale pay,” he said.
