JOHOR BARU, March 10 — A union leader suffered a fractured left arm and a gash on his forehead after two men assaulted him here two days ago in a third attack in less than a year.
Ibrahim Ahmad, president of the Peninsular Malaysia Customs Officers Union, was attacked at about 12.30am near his house in Kangkar Pulai as he was about to drive to Taman Anggerik.
“Two men came after me as I was about to enter my car. I tried to quickly start the car but a Proton Waja car blocked my path.
“One of the two pursuers smashed the window on the driver’s side of my car and the front windscreen with bricks contained in a plastic bag,” he said at the Puteri Specialist Hospital here.
Ibrahim said he moved over to the front passenger seat of the car but the two men continued to assault him with the bricks in the plastic bag, injuring his forehead, arms and other parts of the body.
After almost 10 minutes, both the men and a third at the wheel of the Proton Waja fled as people came to investigate the incident.
Ibrahim, who is also chairman of the Johor branch of the union, said he lodged a report at the Kangkar Pulai police station and sought treatment at the hospital.
“I believe they were seeking revenge. Perhaps my job as a Customs officer and Customs union chief has incurred the anger of some quarters,” he said.
Ibrahim, who received seven stitches for the forehead wound, said this was the third time he had come under attack.
His car was torched in June last year and red paint was splashed on his house two months later. — Bernama
